Read along with the author: free Executive Functions book study starts November 11

Executive Functions book study with author Mitch Weathers. K–3 and grades 3–12. Starts Wednesday, November 11.

On October 6, teachers from Aztec, Bloomfield, Farmington and Central Consolidated spent the morning at San Juan College with author and educator Mitch Weathers, learning the three keys to supporting executive functions: clarity, modeling and routine. REC1 has since put 90 copies of his books into teachers' hands. Now the conversation moves online, led by the author himself.

Virtual book study with Mitch Weathers

Executive functions are the skills students use to plan, organize, manage their time and regulate themselves. Each book study night runs two back-to-back sessions on Zoom, so you can drop in for one book or both:

  • 4:00–5:00 pm MT, K–3: Executive Functions for Every K–3 Classroom

  • 5:00–6:00 pm MT, grades 3–12: Executive Functions for Every Classroom, Grades 3–12

Dates: Wednesday, November 11 and Tuesday, December 1, 2026, with sessions continuing February 2 and March 3, 2027.

Mitch walks through the chapter topics, then opens it up for live Q&A. It's meant to feel like a book study, not a webinar, so bring your questions and what you've tried in your classroom. Registration and the Zoom link will be emailed. Still need a copy of the book? Email Kate Morris at kmorris@nmrec1.org.

Full-day follow-up: January 13

Ready to go deeper? Mitch returns in person for a full day of practical strategies.

  • When: Wednesday, January 13, 2027, 8:30 am–3:00 pm

  • Where: Farmington Civic Center, 200 W. Arrington St., Farmington

  • Who: K–12 general and special education teachers, coaches and interventionists from REC1 member districts

What you'll get:

  • A deeper look at clarity, modeling and routine

  • Practical systems for organization and follow-through

  • Executive functioning as a Tier 1 support for all students

  • An introduction to Organized Binder, Mitch's classroom system for building these skills

  • Collaboration time to plan for your own classroom
