Excel 3: Three (More) Essential Excel Techniques to Understanding Your Data

This session, designed for all educators and education administrators, teaches you three powerful techniques for understanding your student data. You do a lot of work for your students. What are you getting for all your effort? These three Excel techniques help you make decisions about instruction, programs, and student outcomes.

Date: January 13, 2023
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. OR 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Using real student data, we’ll start by reviewing the powerful and efficient techniques from the first two sessions.
  • named cells and ranges
  • countif / countifs
  • sumproduct
  • averageif / averageifs
  • simple data tables
  • pull-down menus
  • basic data clean up
(If you missed those sessions, you can watch them here: http://www.nmrec1.org/tech-bits/)

Then, in this session, we’ll look at three more Excel techniques help you make decisions about instruction, programs, and student outcomes:
  1. maximum, minimum, median, midpoint, and threshold values
  2. standard deviation and correlation (Yes, a little bit of stats, but I’ll make it easy to understand!)
  3. graphs: scatter, line, and bar graphs (and when to use each), and adding trend lines
And if we have time...we’ll explore using absolute references to make moving formulas easier, combining formulas, and adding text to numerical results

New Digital Learning Coach for REC-1

Welcome, Nan Lasster!

My name is Nan Lasster. I am the new Digital Learning Coach for this area through the
State Technology Initiative with REC-1. I will be assisting your teachers and staff faculty
in learning to utilize a variety of technological tools to support student learning over the
next few months. I will offer in-person and virtual coaching, plus resources.

In the next few days, I will be sending out a questionnaire to the superintendents and
principals to determine your needs in order to make my training sessions as helpful as
possible.

I look forward to working with you all.

As the Digital Learning Coach, Nan will be responsible for planning, organizing, and providing site-based and virtual training and leadership in the area of technology integration in schools and classrooms across the REC-1 region and beyond. She will also work to further student, teacher, and administrator use and understanding of integrating technology tools and strategies to enhance student learning and increase student engagement.
